Dr Surangi Mendis

She graduated in Medicine from King’s College London in 2009, having also completed an intercalated BSc in Infectious Diseases and Immunobiology. Following completion of General Practice training, she undertook higher specialist training in Audiovestibular Medicine through the pan-London training programme.

Surangi has extensive experience in the assessment and management of patients with vestibular, hearing and tinnitus disorders. She has a specialist interest in vestibular migraine and also works with The National Migraine Centre, where she provides specialist assessment and management for patients with migraine, including the use of advanced preventive treatments for those who have not responded adequately to standard therapies.

 

Alongside her clinical work, Surangi is actively involved in service development, quality improvement and the education and training of clinicians in Audiovestibular Medicine. She is passionate about improving understanding of vestibular disorders beyond specialist services and has a particular interest in supporting clinicians working in generalist settings, including primary care, acute medicine and emergency departments.

 

She is also committed to patient education and public engagement. Through her social media platform, @dizzy_doc on Instagram and Facebook, she provides accessible, evidence-based information about dizziness, vestibular disorders and migraine, with the aim of empowering both patients and the clinicians involved in their care.

Surangi has twice been awarded the British Association of Audiovestibular Physicians (BAAP) National Audit Prize. She has co-authored a book chapter on the diagnosis of third mobile window disorders and has contributed to online educational resources for junior ENT and Audiovestibular Medicine clinicians, including the European Academy of Neurology e-Brain e-learning programme.
